FYJC Admissions Update: Poor Response Prompts Concern as Merit List Release Nears

Education officials in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad have expressed concern over the lackluster response from students to the central online admission process for First Year Junior College (FYJC) admissions this year.

Underwhelming Enrollment Figures

According to data from the education department, only 92,797 students have registered for the available 1,19,290 seats in the Pune region. This significant gap between available seats and registered students reflects a notable decline in enrollment compared to previous years.

Diverse Career Aspirations

Shruti Patankar, a student, exemplifies the shifting preferences among students this year. Opting for a diploma course in computer engineering at a private university over traditional Class 11 admission, her decision underscores the evolving career aspirations and educational choices among today’s youth.

Merit List Announcement

Despite the subdued response, the preliminary merit list of students who have completed the admission process is set to be released on Tuesday, June 18. This eagerly anticipated announcement marks a crucial milestone in the ongoing admission process.

Admission Protocol

As part of the admission protocol, students were required to fill both Part I and Part II of the application form by the June 15 deadline. Only those who have completed both sections will be considered for inclusion in the initial merit list. Additionally, it is imperative for students to secure admission in their first-choice college as per the preference order recorded during the online admission process. Failure to do so may impact their eligibility for subsequent rounds of admissions.

Grievance Redressal and Next Steps

Following the release of the preliminary merit list, students will have the opportunity to register objections regarding the list between June 18 and June 21 through the designated grievance redressal system on the website. Subsequently, the final merit list of admissions is scheduled for release on June 27. Students whose admission is confirmed in this list will have until July 1 to complete the admission process, as outlined in the circular issued by the education department.
