Pune, often celebrated for its rich cultural heritage and vibrant art scene, is currently hosting an enchanting celebration of creativity – the Pune Potters’ Market 2023. This mesmerizing pottery festival, now in its third edition, is a testament to the enduring appeal of ceramics and pottery as an artistic medium. Curated and organized by Indranil Garai’s IGA Galleria, in collaboration with Bhoomi Pottery, this event is a gathering of artists and art enthusiasts from across India.
The Pune Potters’ Market 2023 is taking place at The Pavilion, Senapati Bapat Road, Pune. The event, which is open to the public and free of charge, offers a splendid ceramic art fiesta that runs until Sunday, October 22. Visitors can explore the world of pottery from 11 am to 9 pm on these dates.
Compared to previous editions, this year’s Pune Potters’ Market offers an even larger selection of studio potters, each specializing in handmade ceramics. A total of 48 talented artists, divided into two weekends – the first from October 20 to 22 and the second from October 27 to 29, are participating and showcasing a diverse array of their creations, including Utility Pottery, Ceramic Sculptures, Murals, Jewelry, and Artifacts.
One artist, Shalan Dere, with 35 years of pottery experience, shared her enthusiasm, saying, “In pottery, I create something that I like more than what people would like. I am happy that people appreciate pottery these days.”
Ajay Abhyankar, another artist, explained how he discovered his passion for pottery during a trip to Prague. He has been practicing miniature pottery for a decade and expressed his love for the intricacy of the art.
Pralayantika Sharma, who initially took up pottery as a hobby, has since turned it into a profession, specializing in cutwork and ceramic surface decoration. She’s excited about sharing this art form with more people, noting the growing appreciation for pottery in recent times.
