From British Roots to Indian Valor: Celebrating 98 Years of Military Nursing Services

The 98th Raising Day of the Military Nursing Services (MNS) marked a momentous occasion for the nursing officers of the Southern Command. This day celebrated the unwavering dedication, compassion, and heroism exhibited by these remarkable individuals in the line of duty.

A Historical Journey:

The roots of the Military Nursing Services in India trace back to March 1988 when the first batch of ten qualified British Nurses arrived in Bombay, marking the inception of the MNS. However, the true evolution of this noble service took place on October 1, 1926, when a permanent Nursing Services unit was established as an integral part of the Indian Army. It was officially designated as the Indian Military Nursing Service (IMNS).

The Turning Point:

A pivotal moment in the history of the MNS occurred on September 15, 1943, when Military Ordinances were promulgated, firmly establishing the MNS as an indispensable component of the Armed Forces. Since then, the MNS has consistently ranked among the finest Army Nursing Services globally, earning recognition and admiration for its exceptional contributions.

Honoring the Brave Hearts:

In Pune, the 98th Raising Day was commemorated with deep reverence and gratitude. The event included a poignant tribute paid to the courageous individuals who have selflessly served their nation. Brig Subhashini K R, Brig MNS, HQ Southern Command, along with senior veteran MNS Officers, led the ceremony at the Southern Command War Memorial.

Lt Gen A K Singh, GOC-in-C Southern Command, extended heartfelt congratulations to the Nursing Officers for their invaluable service to the Indian Armed Forces. He lauded their unwavering dedication and compassion, highlighting their role in delivering high-quality nursing care.

Major General Medical, HQ Southern Command, also commended the nursing officers for their exemplary nursing care and urged them to recommit themselves to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and compassion in their noble profession.
