Market Yard, 13th August 2023: The agricultural landscape in Pune is experiencing a significant shift as the wholesale market witnesses a substantial decline in tomato prices, attributed to a remarkable surge in tomato arrivals over the past month. This trend has been sparked by the introduction of newly cultivated tomato crops into the market, leading to an abundance of supply. The evidence of this surge was undeniable on Sunday, with the receipt of a staggering nine thousand boxes of tomatoes at the Sri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard.

Compared to the previous week, this volume of tomato arrivals has doubled, leaving its mark on the wholesale market. The cost of 10 kg of tomatoes now varies between Rs 300 and Rs 500, a range that is contingent upon the quality of the produce.

On the auspicious date of Sunday, August 13, the Shree Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard in Gultekdi painted a vibrant scene as it played host to a convoy of 100 trucks laden with an array of fruits and vegetables. These offerings were sourced both locally and from various other states. This diverse influx of produce has allowed traders to report favorable arrivals, contributing to the stability of prices across the majority of fruits and vegetables.

Noteworthy among these shipments were 10 Tempo Green Chilies from Karnataka, 4 Tempo Cabbages each from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, along with 4 Tempo Ghewda from Karnataka. Additionally, there were 2 Tempo Pavata and 2 Tempo Groundnut Legumes from Gujarat, and a healthy contribution of 10 Tempo Garlic from Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Agra, and Indore. Not to be overlooked, the Pune division played its part by contributing 40 truckloads of potatoes, as confirmed by Adte Vilas Bhujbal, the head of the wholesale market.

Diversifying the market further, the influx of produce also included 800 sacks of Satari ginger from the Pune division. Alongside this were 9 thousand boxes of tomatoes, 10 tempos filled with flowers, 4 tempos laden with cabbage, 5 tempos filled with peas from the Satara region, and 7 tempos of okra. The supply chain was rounded out by 5 tempos of guar, 100 sacks of groundnut pods, 10 tempos of chilies, 10 trucks of cucumbers, and an impressive 10 trucks of red pumpkin, with an added 70 trucks of onions.
