Former Senior Police Inspector Faces Arrest Warrant for Dodging Testimony in Assault and Extortion Case

Pune Sessions Court

In a significant development, the Pune court has taken a strong stance against a former Senior Police Inspector, Kamble, who has repeatedly failed to appear as a witness in a case of assault and extortion. Judicial Magistrate (First Class) C. M. Patil issued an arrest warrant, underscoring the critical importance of Kamble’s testimony in the ongoing legal proceedings.

The case, originating from an incident on May 20, 2013, at the Koregaon Park Police Station, involves multiple individuals from Kesnand, namely Shivaji Shinde, Sainath Satav, Somnath Satav, Vishnu Satav, Dnyaneshwar Satav, and Nilaram Shitakal. The complainant, Hanif Somji of Boat Club Road, alleges physical assault, a demand for a Rs 20 lakh extortion, and the creation of a riot-like situation in Somji’s office with threats of harm.

The Koregaon Park Police conducted a thorough investigation, resulting in a chargesheet filed on September 24, 2013. The legal representation for the accused is managed by Advocates Milind Pawar and Akash Deshmukh. However, despite government witnesses having recorded their testimonies, the investigating officer, Senior Inspector Kamble, has yet to provide his account. The case is scheduled for its next hearing on November 24.

In addition to the arrest order, a warrant for Kamble’s arrest has been issued. The Koregaon Park police station staff has made several unsuccessful attempts to contact Kamble, including phone calls and a notice sent via WhatsApp, all of which remain unanswered. As a result, the public prosecutor sought and obtained court approval for the issuance of another arrest warrant.
