Exploring Sindhi Literature and Culture Through ‘Rangarang’ Event in Pune

Pune, August 22, 2023 – The vibrant rhythm of ‘Jai Zhulelal, Lal Zhulelal’ echoed through the air, accompanied by the spirited performances of Sindhi folk arts and dances. A showcase of patriotism through song and dance, an acknowledgment of the wounds of partition through poignant melodies – the ‘Rangarang’ program provided a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Sindhi literature and culture. The event captivated the audience with its joyful ambiance, celebrating the essence of the Sindhi heritage.

The cultural program and felicitation ceremony were jointly organized by the Maharashtra State Sindhi Sahitya Academy, Mumbai, and the Bharatiya Sindhu Sabha. The Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Auditorium in Wanowrie set the stage for this vibrant gathering. The presence of Mahesh Sukhramani, Executive President of Maharashtra State Sindhi Sahitya Academy, as the chief guest lent a distinguished aura to the event. Esteemed personalities, including members of the Maharashtra State Sindhi Sahitya Academy and the President of Bharatiya Sindhu Sabha Maharashtra, Suresh Hemnani, graced the occasion.

Speaking at the event, Mahesh Sukharamani highlighted the academy’s efforts to safeguard the Sindhi language and culture. He shed light on the challenges faced by the Sindhi community post-partition, emphasizing their subsequent resurgence in various fields across the nation. Sukharamani called upon the knowledgeable and compassionate young generation of the Sindhi community to preserve their heritage. He urged them to communicate in Sindhi within their households and wherever possible, in a bid to uphold the culture that dates back thousands of years.

Suresh Hemnani elucidated the annual nature of the program, which aims to foster unity within the society, sow the seeds of language and culture among the younger generation, and pay homage to notable personalities while inspiring the new cohort. The academy, through such initiatives, seeks to promote Sindhi language, culture, literature, and artist appreciation.

The event also witnessed the felicitation of individuals who have made significant contributions to society, including Govardhanlal Sharma, Manohar Pherwani, and Lal Punjabi. Awat Jethwani extended a warm welcome to all attendees, and Jeet Hiranandani ably compared the program. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Jeetu Adwani.

‘Rangarang’ not only showcased the artistic flair and cultural diversity of the Sindhi community but also exemplified the unity and commitment towards preserving their legacy.
