Enhancing Rail Safety: Pune Division’s Milestone of Closing 11 Level Crossing Gates

Pune Division has undertaken significant safety measures since April 2023 to enhance the operational safety of trains. Among the crucial safety works carried out, the closure of level crossing gates stands out as a key initiative, contributing to better punctuality and increased safety in train operations.

The ongoing efforts involve the gradual closure of level crossing gates across Pune Division, achieved through the construction of Road Over Bridges (ROB), Road Under Bridges (RUB), and Limited Height Subways (LHS). The closure of these gates is instrumental in maintaining punctuality and enhancing overall safety for railway operations.

Since April 2023, a total of 11 level crossing gates have been successfully closed on Pune Division, contributing to the division’s commitment to railway safety. The closure details are as follows:

  1. Level crossing gate No. 8 between Pune-Miraj closed from 03/1/2024
  2. Level crossing gate No. 117 between Pune-Miraj closed from 02/1/2024
  3. Level crossing gate No. 108 & 81 between Pune-Miraj and 16 between Pune-Daund, along with gate No. 20 between Miraj-Kolhapur, closed in December 2023
  4. Level crossing gate No. 130 between Pune-Miraj closed in October 2023
  5. Level crossing gate No. 23 between Pune-Miraj closed in September 2023
  6. Level crossing gate No. 14 between Pune-Daund closed in May 2023
  7. Level crossing gate No. 28 & 70 between Pune-Miraj closed in April 2023

These closures are aligned with Railway Board’s safety initiatives, Headquarters Ambush checks, and Divisional Safety Drives. In addition to these, Safety Seminars/Camps and Safety Meetings/Counselling sessions have been conducted, attended by a large number of employees.

The combined efforts and initiatives by Pune Division underline their commitment to the safe and efficient operation of trains.
