Enhancing Connectivity: Pune’s Ambitious Second Ring Road Project Gains Momentum

In a noteworthy development that promises to reshape Pune’s transportation landscape, the Maharashtra Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) are advancing major ring road projects in the region. As the land acquisition process for MSRDC’s ring road progresses, PMRDA has taken a significant step forward by officially issuing a notification for its own second ring road project. This dual-ring road initiative is poised to enhance connectivity and alleviate traffic congestion in Pune district.

The notification for PMRDA’s ring road project was formally issued by Sachin Kothekar, Deputy Secretary of the Revenue and Forest Department, signifying a substantial milestone in the realization of this ambitious infrastructure endeavor. Consequently, it is now evident that Pune district will soon benefit from two distinct ring roads, each contributing to improved transportation and reduced traffic congestion.

PMRDA’s ring road project is planned to traverse through 44 villages across four talukas: Khed, Haveli, Mulshi, and Maval. Detailed information about the specific villages included in the route, survey numbers, and the extent of land area designated for development is comprehensively outlined in the issued notification.

The primary aim of MSRDC’s ring road project is to address traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad cities. The initial phase of this project, focusing on land acquisition, is already underway, managed by MSRDC.

Previously, PMRDA had incorporated the Ring Road into its Regional Development Plan (RP), with project representation featured in the authority’s draft development plan. However, it had largely remained on paper for several years. The recent government decision to actively advance this project has paved the way for two distinct ring roads within Pune district, separated by an estimated distance of fifteen to twenty kilometers.

Typically, before commencing construction on a ring road project, a comprehensive study is conducted, and a report detailing the social impact of the proposed project is submitted. However, the State Government has granted exemptions related to ‘Social Impact Assessment’ for Ring Roads under Section 10C of PMRDA. The second ring road is expected to traverse approximately 1,301 survey numbers across 44 villages, necessitating the acquisition of around 750 hectares of land.

The route of the second ring road, along with the corresponding talukas and villages, includes:

Haveli Taluka – Nirgudi, Vadgaon Shinde, Lohgaon, Wagholi, Ahavalwadi, Manjari Khurd, Kolwadi, Kadamwakwasti, Fursungi, Vadki, Uruli Devachi, Holkarwadi, Autade Handewadi, Wadachiwadi, Pisoli, Yewlewadi, Gujar Nimbalkarwadi, Mangdewadi, Bhilarewadi, Jambhulwadi, Ambegaon Khurd, Narhe, Dhairi, Vadgaon Khurd, Nanded, Shivane, Warje.

Mulshi Taluka – Bavdhan Khurd, Bhugaon, Bawdhan Budruk, Sus, Nande, Man, Hinjawadi, Marunji, Nere, Jambe.

Maval Taluka – Sangwade, Darumbre, Salumbre, Godumbre, Dhamane, Parandwadi.
