Enhanced Commuting Experience: PMPML’s New App for Ticket Booking and Bus Tracking

In a significant leap forward for public transportation in Pune, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has successfully launched a mobile app that promises to transform how passengers book tickets and track buses. This innovative development is poised to redefine the digital journey of PMPML, greatly improving the commuting experience for its 13 lakh daily passengers.

Passengers have long awaited the convenience of booking tickets through a mobile app, and PMPML has answered their call with this latest initiative. The app is now ready and has undergone rigorous testing, with a demonstration scheduled for the coming week.

Furthermore, the introduction of a ‘Payment Gateway’ is in progress, with a proposal submitted to the Central Bank of India. Once approved, passengers will have the added convenience of booking tickets online, making their daily commute even smoother.

Nitin Narvekar, Co-Managing Director of PMPML, Pune, expressed, “The ‘PMPML’ app is ready for use. As soon as the Central Bank of India approves the ‘Payment Gateway’ proposal, passengers will be able to purchase tickets through the app. Additionally, other features on the app will also be accessible.”

PMPML embarked on its digital journey last month with the launch of a QR code service, allowing passengers to purchase tickets via QR codes. The addition of a mobile app to their services represents another significant step in enhancing the overall passenger experience.

One standout feature of the app is the live bus tracking capability, enabling passengers to plan their journeys more efficiently. This feature has been made possible through extensive work that included mapping bus stops and routes in collaboration with Google’s suggestions and six months’ worth of data collection.

The mapping of approximately 1,500 bus stops and 580 routes has been completed. Once the app is live, passengers can effortlessly access real-time bus information for their chosen routes using their mobile devices.

PMPML, with its extensive network of 4,674 stops and 980 routes, generates a daily income of around one and a half crores. With the new mobile app, PMPML aims to provide passengers with a more convenient, efficient, and user-friendly commuting experience.
