Empowering Women in Dehu Road: A Menstrual Health & Hygiene Camp by Spread Happiness Foundation and Ravet Women’s Club

In a heartwarming and transformative event, the “Empower Her: Menstrual Health & Hygiene Camp” brought newfound hope and empowerment to over 200 women residing in Bikash Nagar, a lively slum community home to more than 1500 migrant families hailing from various states, including Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and more. The majority of residents in this dynamic neighborhood face financial hardships. The event was a collaborative effort between the prominent Pune-based NGO, Spread Happiness Foundation, and the dedicated members of the Ravet Women’s Club. Leading the initiative were Nirupama Mohanty, Founder of Ravet Women’s Club, and Mr. Soumya Ranjan Mohapatro, Founder and Chairman of Spread Happiness Foundation.

Bikash Nagar stands as a testament to the unwavering resilience of migrant families seeking a brighter future. However, the challenges faced by these families, especially the women, often go unnoticed. The “Empower Her” camp served as an affirming reminder of their significance.

The event featured an informative session on menstrual hygiene led by Dr. Shital Chavan, a renowned expert in the field. Dr. Chavan equipped the women with crucial knowledge, empowering them to take charge of their reproductive health and hygiene.

Recognizing the practical difficulties faced by many of these women, the organizers distributed sanitary pads to all attendees. This simple yet impactful gesture, spearheaded by members of the Spread Happiness Foundation and the dedicated women of Ravet Women’s Club, aimed to alleviate a burden that these women frequently shoulder.

Mr. Soumya Ranjan Mohapatro, Founder and Chairman of the Spread Happiness Foundation, utilized the platform to raise awareness about various government schemes and resources available to these women. He underscored the significance of utilizing government initiatives such as health cards provided by the Central Government and insurance schemes for migrant laborers initiated by the Prime Minister. These initiatives are designed to provide financial security and access to healthcare for those in need.

The “Empower Her” camp beautifully exemplified the strength of community collaboration and individual commitment. Pranati Sabat and Deep Mohanty from Spread Happiness Foundation, along with Prachi Pragya, Sangita Tai, and Rekha Goel from Ravet Women’s Club, all affiliated with the Spread Happiness Foundation, joined forces with Mr. Soumya Ranjan Mohapatro to ensure the event’s success. Their unwavering dedication and collective efforts have left a lasting impact on the women of Bikash Nagar.

The “Empower Her: Menstrual Health & Hygiene Camp,” jointly organized by the Ravet Women’s Club and the Spread Happiness Foundation, embodies the potential for positive change when individuals and organizations unite for a common cause. By addressing menstrual health and hygiene and spreading awareness about government initiatives, this event has not only empowered the women of Bikash Nagar but has also sown the seeds for a brighter, healthier, and more equitable future.
