Electoral Cleanup Underway: 32,366 Bogus Voters Identified in Purandar Constituency

In a startling revelation, the Pune District Election Commission has identified a staggering 32,366 bogus voters in the Purandar assembly constituency from Sangli district. The discovery has prompted the district administration to launch corrective measures, with a dedicated team already at work to rectify the voter list before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Former state minister Vijay Shivtare brought attention to the issue, expressing concern over the inclusion of over 32,000 names from the Palus-Kadegaon constituency in the Sangli district in the Purandar assembly constituency. Urging prompt action, Shivtare called on the election department to swiftly remove these bogus voters to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.

The Pune District Election Commission responded by initiating an investigation, confirming the presence of the identified bogus voters. A specialized independent team, comprising officials from the District Officer, Tehsildar, Voter Registration Officer, and relevant authorities from Palus-Kadegaon Assembly Constituency in Sangli, has been formed to address the issue.

The independent team is actively reaching out to the identified bogus voters to determine their preferred constituency for registration. Individuals will have the option to choose either Palus or Purandar assembly constituencies. Based on the responses received, the team will take necessary actions to rectify the voter list and ensure the integrity of the electoral process.

The final voter list is slated to be announced on January 17. However, due to the delayed complaint regarding the list in the Purandar Constituency, the process to eliminate the 32,366 double entries will require affected voters to contact the authorities. They must seek permission to retain their names in a single constituency, and the removal of these names will be executed based on the responses received from the concerned voters.

As the election commission works diligently to address this issue, the focus remains on upholding the democratic principles of fairness and transparency in the electoral process.
