Driving Change: Pune Implements Traffic Diversions for Massive Maratha Samaj Assembly

As Pune prepares to host the Sakal Maratha Samaj meeting on 20th November at Mahalakshmi Lawns, Pune Nagar Road, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Dr Shivaji Pawar, has issued a strategic traffic advisory. The goal is to ensure the safe and smooth flow of traffic in both Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune, given the expected gathering of approximately one and a half lakh citizens and the potential for increased traffic congestion.

The meeting, featuring the prominent presence of Maratha Leader Manoj Jarange Patil, is likely to draw citizens from various regions, leading to increased vehicular movement. With the recent return of vehicles from Diwali celebrations, especially those coming from native villages, traffic jams on city roads are anticipated. In response, temporary traffic changes have been announced, primarily impacting heavy vehicles from the Pimpri Chinchwad side.

Here are the key points outlined in the traffic advisory:

For Nigdi, Talawade, Bhosari, and Chakan under Traffic Division:

  • Entry of all types of heavy/unwieldy vehicles from the Pimpri Chinchwad side to Nagar Road via the Pune side is prohibited.

Alternative Routes:

  1. Heavy vehicles from the Old Mumbai Pune Highway will reroute towards the city via Bhakti Shakti Chowk- Moshi Toll Gate- Chakan- Shikrapur.
  2. Heavy vehicles in the Pimpri Chinchwad area at Nashik Phata will divert to the city via Bhosari-Chakan.

It’s important to note that these traffic changes are temporary and specifically apply to non-essential service vehicles. Essential service vehicles, including police, ambulance, fire brigade, petrol and diesel tankers, PMPML buses, school buses, etc., are exempt from these restrictions.

As Pune gears up for this significant gathering, the city authorities aim to strike a balance between facilitating the event and ensuring the convenience of everyday commuters.
