Delayed Excavation Leads to Wastage of Resources and Disruption of New Road
Pune News : In Sadashiv Peth, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) are embroiled in a dispute over road excavation, causing frustration among citizens and wasting resources as the deadline looms.
MSEDCL hastily commenced road digging from Tilak Smarak temple to Perugate police chowki within three days, aiming to utilize funds before the fiscal year-end on March 31. Despite receiving permission on March 15, excavation work began on March 22, resulting in unnecessary expenses and disrupting the newly laid road.
Saheb Rao Dandge from the PMC road department criticized MSEDCL for delays in payment and poor communication, leading to penalties for the municipal corporation.
However, MSEDCL defended its actions, stating they had permission to replace a faulty underground cable. Despite paying charges and obtaining written consent, the work was abruptly halted halfway following PMC’s orders.
This incident underscores PMC’s newfound emphasis on coordination between excavating agencies and the road department to streamline operations and prevent such disruptions.
Civic activist Vivek Velankar condemned the lack of coordination, highlighting the squandering of public funds due to the discord between PMC and MSEDCL.
The situation serves as a stark reminder of the critical need for efficient coordination between civic authorities and utility companies to avert disruptions, avoid resource wastage, and ensure timely completion of infrastructure projects.
