Defence Estates Authority Launches Ambitious Land Survey Across 19 Cantonments in Maharashtra

The Directorate General of Defence Estates (DGDE) has embarked on an ambitious initiative to conduct a comprehensive land survey across 19 cantonments, highlighting the importance of aligning them with municipal corporation limits. This strategic move aims to ensure seamless integration and enhance the management of these military zones.

Spanning Pune, Khadki, Dehu Road, Bhingar in Ahmednagar, Deolali in Nashik, and Kamptee in Nagpur, the cantonments selected for the survey will undergo meticulous measurement processes. The objective is to accurately define their boundaries and facilitate better coordination with municipal entities.

Led by the Additional Director General of the Survey Department within the DGDE office, a special one-day session convened with chief executive officers of the cantonments and seven defence estate officers operating under the Southern Command’s jurisdiction. The collaborative effort seeks to streamline the integration process and address any challenges that may arise during the survey.

In specific regions such as Khadki and Pune, the survey will focus on identifying and securing vacant lands that lack proper fencing. Despite their potential high value, these unprotected areas are vulnerable to illegal occupation. Defence estate officials and local military authorities are poised to implement measures such as erecting fences to safeguard these valuable plots from unauthorized encroachment.

This proactive approach by the DGDE signifies a commitment to strengthen the management and security of cantonments, ensuring their alignment with modern urban planning and development standards.
