Pune: In a meaningful celebration of its Diamond Jubilee Year, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) received a practical and thoughtful gift from Dr. Rajendra Vikhe Patil, president of Pravara Institute of Medical Science and a member of the SPPU’s senate. The donation, consisting of 75 bicycles, is intended to provide convenience to university employees and foster sustainable commuting practices.
Promoting Sustainable Commuting: The sprawling campus of SPPU, covering an extensive 411 acres, often requires employees without personal vehicles to cover substantial distances on foot. Dr. Patil’s generous gift of bicycles is viewed as a commendable initiative to address this challenge and promote a sustainable mode of transportation within the university.
Dignitaries Present at the Ceremony: The official presentation of the bicycles took place in the presence of key dignitaries, including Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Suresh Gosavi, Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Parag Kalkar, In-charge Registrar Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Khare, Director of the Examination and Evaluation Board Dr. Mahesh Kakade, Senate member Bageshree Manthalkar, and Prof Dr. Devidas Vaidande, among others.
Commitment to Well-Being: Expressing gratitude for this thoughtful gesture, Vice-Chancellor Gosavi commented, “This initiative aligns with our commitment to sustainability and the well-being of our staff. Eliminating Long Walks for Staff: Dr. Patil emphasized the need to eliminate the practice of employees walking long distances due to the lack of personal vehicles. The bicycles are expected to bring relief to university staff, providing a more convenient and eco-friendly mode of transportation.
