Coaching Class Trainer Falls Victim to Elaborate Hoax Involving Fake Courier Intercept

A 51-year-old coaching class trainer from Uttam Nagar fell prey to cyber fraudsters in an intricate online courier scam, resulting in a loss of ₹3 lakh. The incident, which occurred on April 3 at his office in Dhayari between 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm, serves as a stark reminder of the risks posed by sophisticated online scams.

According to police reports, the victim received a deceptive call from a purported courier company claiming to have intercepted a package addressed to him. The caller alleged that the package contained a concerning assortment of items, including passports, credit cards, a laptop, banned substances, footwear, and clothing, purportedly destined for Taiwan under the victim’s name.

Subsequently, the caller transferred the call to individuals posing as cyber police officers, urging the victim to file a police complaint regarding the intercepted package.

In a distressing turn of events, one of the fraudulent individuals masquerading as a crime branch official falsely implicated the victim in criminal activities, alleging that a former Maharashtra minister, Nawab Malik, was using the victim’s Aadhar card for illicit purposes. Leveraging fear tactics, the fraudsters coerced the victim into transferring ₹3 lakh to an account provided by them.

Consequently, the victim, under duress, succumbed to the fraudulent demands and transferred the requested sum, only to realize later that he had fallen victim to a sophisticated cyber scam.

A case has been registered at the Uttam Nagar Police Station under pertinent sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act, with investigations currently underway to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
