Customs Officials Uncover Rs 33 Lakh Gold Haul Hidden in Passenger’s Body at Pune Airport

In a significant crackdown on illegal gold smuggling, customs officials at Pune Airport intercepted and seized gold worth Rs 33.33 lakh from a passenger arriving from Dubai on Monday. The passenger had resorted to a cunning method of concealment by hiding the gold in capsules within his rectum, according to officials.

Upon profiling a passenger arriving from Dubai on SG 52 flight on September 11, 2023, customs officials became suspicious and decided to carry out an inspection. During the interrogation and subsequent investigation, they discovered two capsules containing gold paste concealed in the passenger’s rectum. Upon extraction, a total of 555.6 grams of 24k gold, valued at Rs 33.93 lakhs, was seized.

The customs officials didn’t stop at just seizing the smuggled gold. They also apprehended two individuals who had come to receive and collect the gold outside the arrival gate at the airport. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
