Cultural Harmony: Savitribai Phule Pune University Hosts Assamese Students for ‘Yuva Sangam’ Exchange Program

Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) recently became the vibrant backdrop for cultural exchange as it welcomed 50 students from Assam participating in the ‘Yuva Sangam’ program. The initiative, aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’ campaign, aims to deepen cultural understanding by facilitating interactions between students from Maharashtra and Assam. The Assamese students, in Pune for the third phase of ‘Yuva Sangam,’ were greeted with warmth and enthusiasm within the university’s main building.

This year’s ‘Yuva Sangam’ initiative holds special significance, emphasizing the essence of unity in diversity. The cultural exchange activities provide a platform for selected students to explore and appreciate the unique heritage of their peers from different states. As part of the third phase, a dedicated team of students from Assam commenced their cultural journey in Pune, Maharashtra.

The University of Pune’s meticulous preparations for the event did not go unnoticed, earning appreciation from the participating students. A special function held on Sunday evening, presided over by (Dr.) Parag Kalkar, served as an introduction to Pune University, Maharashtra, and Marathi culture for the Assamese students. Dignitaries present included University Management Council Member Bageshree Manthalkar, Management Council Member Prof. Dr. Sandeep Palve, Director of Student Development Board Dr. Abhijit Kulkarni, and Director of the National Service Scheme Department Sadanand Bhosle.

Expressing their best wishes for the upcoming week’s activities, all dignitaries highlighted the significance of cultural exchange and the enriching experiences that awaited the students. The university, mindful of the expectations of the visiting students, outlined the planned field visits and cultural exchange programs. This comprehensive introduction aimed to provide the students with insights into the rich cultural tapestry of Pune, Maharashtra, and the broader Indian experience.
