In a crucial development, the Sadhu Vaswani Railway Flyover in Koregaon Park, Pune, constructed by the Maharashtra Government’s Public Works Department nearly 50 years ago, has been closed for heavy traffic due to its deteriorated state. As a precautionary measure, height barriers have been strategically placed on both sides of the bridge by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
Urgent Action: Demolition and Reconstruction
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the PMC Project Department has taken the decision to proceed with the demolition and reconstruction of the ailing Sadhu Vaswani Railway Flyover. Commencing from January 6, 2024, the flyover will be closed for traffic for the next 10 to 15 days to facilitate the necessary construction activities.
Traffic Changes and Alternatives
During this closure period, alternative transportation arrangements will be implemented on an experimental basis. Changes in traffic flow, such as the introduction of One Way routes and Entry restrictions, will be observed in Nagar Road, Koregaon Park, Bundgarden, Council Hall, and Morvada area. A detailed notification outlining these changes will be disseminated through the Pune Police Traffic Branch, with the alterations executed on a trial basis.
Evaluation and Permanent Traffic Plan
Following the initial 10 to 15 days, a comprehensive study of the traffic diversions will be conducted. The final order, detailing the permanent traffic plan, will be issued by the Pune Police Traffic Branch. Authorities earnestly request all citizens to stay informed about these changes and cooperate during this period of reconstruction.
