Crackdown on IPL Betting: Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Arrest 10 Suspects in Wakad Raid

Authorities Seize Cash and Equipment Valued at Over ₹6.5 Lakh in Operation Against Cricket Betting Syndicate

In a significant crackdown on illegal betting activities during an IPL cricket match, the Pimpri-Chinchwad police apprehended 10 individuals from a private housing society in Wakad. The raid, conducted on April 4 around 11 pm, uncovered a clandestine betting operation centered around the IPL match between the Gujrat Titans and Kings Eleven Punjab.

The arrested individuals, identified as Surya Pratap Singh (18), Rajesh Chotalal Karbhau (25), Ranjit Sarju Makhiya (20), Shubham Pulsi Dharu (22), Tilesh Amitkumar Kureh (25), Jitu Navin Harpal (28), Rahulkuamar Prakash Kumar Urav (22), Yash Prasad Shahu (18), Kishan Manoj Popatani (22), and Samaya Mahant (22), were apprehended in connection with the illicit betting operation. However, efforts are underway to locate and apprehend two additional suspects, Kartik Ahuja and Ramu Boman.

The police action was initiated following a complaint filed by officer Sunil Kate, prompting authorities to launch an extensive operation targeting a suspected cricket betting syndicate operating from a flat within a society in Wakad. Led by Jadhav from Wakad police station, the raid yielded a significant haul, including cash and equipment valued at ₹6.58 lakh.

Inspector Jadhav remarked, “These individuals may be part of a larger network involved in cricket betting, and our investigation is ongoing to uncover additional links and perpetrators.”

A case has been registered at Wakad police station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Maharashtra Gambling Act, signaling the authorities’ commitment to combatting illegal betting activities and ensuring the integrity of sporting events.
