Couple Dupes Over 300 Shopkeepers in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad

The Crime Branch officials of Pimpri Chinchwad have apprehended an individual from Lohegaon on charges of defrauding shopkeepers in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad by orchestrating fraudulent online transactions. The arrest came after one of the affected shopkeepers filed a complaint with the police. During the ensuing investigation, law enforcement officers successfully traced the Wi-Fi connection linked to the suspect, which had been employed in conjunction with a mobile number to execute the deception.

According to the police, the accused and his spouse have allegedly swindled more than 300 shopkeepers over the past few months. This scam has left a trail of 10 registered cases that have now been resolved following the arrest. The detained individual, identified as Ganesh Shankar Borse (34), is currently in custody, while his wife remains at large, as per official statements.

The modus operandi employed by the couple involved the use of a fraudulent application for National Electronic Fund Transfer (NEFT) transactions. After shopping at various stores, they would present a screenshot to the shopkeeper, claiming to have transferred the money. To further maintain the ruse, they would provide their cellphone number to the shopkeeper, asserting that the amount would be credited shortly. However, when the victims attempted to contact the accused, they discovered that the mobile number was switched off, leading to their realization that they had been deceived.
