Pune: A significant proportion of consumers in the state, accounting for 65 percent, have opted for online payment of their Mahavitran electricity bills.
Currently, an average of 11 million electricity consumers are conveniently paying a total of Rs 5,750 crore in bills from the comfort of their homes each month. Pune Circle has emerged as the leader in online bill payments, with a whopping 2.28 million customers choosing this mode of payment. Notably, over the past three years, there has been a 35 percent increase in customers opting for online electricity bill payment. Mahavitaran customers can conveniently pay their bills online through the Mahavitaran website and mobile app.
Furthermore, customers with bills exceeding Rs 5,000 have the option to pay their electricity bills through RTGS and NEFT. All high-pressure category electricity consumers of Mahavitran are making their monthly bill payments online. A total of 110 lakh consumers, including those in both high and low-pressure categories, have collectively paid nearly Rs 5,750 crore online. Pune Circle alone has witnessed 2.28 million customers paying bills amounting to Rs 1,202.76 crore.
To incentivize online bill payments, customers receive a 0.25 percent discount on their monthly electricity bills, up to a maximum of Rs 500 per month. Additionally, a total discount of 1.25 percent is given to consumers who pay their bills promptly. Mahavitran encourages a maximum number of consumers to embrace the option of paying their electricity bills online.
