Congress Leader Opts Out of Campaign Committee Amidst Discontent with Sena’s Sangli Move

Vishwajeet Kadam’s Decision Highlights Growing Strain Within MVA Alliance Ahead of Lok Sabha Polls

Congress leader and MLA Vishwajeet Kadam has stirred controversy within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance by announcing his decision to abstain from the party’s campaign committee meeting. His move comes amidst dissatisfaction with the unilateral actions of coalition partner Shiv Sena (UBT) regarding the Sangli parliamentary seat, underscoring escalating tensions within the alliance ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

In a letter addressed to Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole dated April 1, Kadam expressed his inability to attend the campaign committee meeting scheduled for April 3. Citing the lack of communication regarding seat-sharing talks for Sangli and other constituencies, Kadam reiterated his commitment to contesting the Sangli seat and emphasized the Congress party’s historical stronghold in the region.

Kadam’s decision to refrain from participating in the meeting until the issue of the Sangli seat is resolved reflects a broader discord within the alliance. The Congress campaign committee meeting, crucial for strategizing electoral plans, is now overshadowed by internal rifts exacerbated by the Sena’s unilateral move.

With Sangli being a traditional Congress stronghold, the Sena’s decision to field a candidate without consulting the Congress has sparked outrage among party members. Kadam’s stance underscores the importance of preserving party loyalty and asserting the Congress’ rightful claim over electoral territories.

Political analysts interpret Kadam’s abstention from the meeting as a form of protest against the denial of the Congress’ natural claim over the Sangli seat in favor of the alliance partner Sena. This development further complicates the dynamics within the MVA alliance, raising questions about the sustainability of coalition cooperation in the run-up to the elections.

As tensions escalate between the coalition partners, the fate of key constituencies like Sangli hangs in the balance, with both parties unwilling to concede ground. Kadam’s decision serves as a stark reminder of the challenges inherent in navigating coalition politics, particularly when competing interests and electoral ambitions collide.
