As the Lok Sabha elections draw near, the Congress party is witnessing heightened activity in Pune, with 20 aspirants submitting their applications for the coveted party ticket to contest the Pune seat. The list of contenders includes prominent figures such as city Congress chief Arvind Shinde, MLA Ravindra Dhangekar, and former MLAs Balasaheb Shivarkar, Mohan Joshi, and Anant Gagil, among others.
The diverse pool of aspirants also features leaders like Dipti Chowdhary, Ulhas Bagul, Abhay Chhajed, Sanjay Balgude, Datta Bahirat, Gopal Tiwari, Virendra Kirad, and Sangeeta Tiwari. Notably, even Radio Jockey Sangram Khopade has thrown his hat into the ring, expressing the desire to secure a Congress ticket for the upcoming elections.
City chief Arvind Shinde confirmed the submission of the list of aspirants to the state Congress unit, indicating the party’s internal preparations and the growing anticipation surrounding the selection process.
Last week, state Congress president Nana Patole took stock of the party’s groundwork for the Pune Lok Sabha seat. During the review, he urged the party cadre to rally behind the chosen candidate of the Maha Vikas Aghadi, emphasizing the importance of unity for a successful electoral outcome.
