Shailaja Darade Suspended

PUNE: The Commissioner in-charge of Maharashtra State Examination Council, Shailaja Darade, has been suspended in the case of cheating of candidates by taking money from them after promising them jobs in the Education Department. The state government has taken the action five months after an FIR was registered against her.

A complaint has been lodged by Popat Sukhdev Suryawanshi, a resident of Sangli district. Accordingly, an FIR was registered against Shailaja Darade, a resident of Pashan and her brother Dadasaheb Darade, a resident of Indapur on February 22, 2023 at the Hadapsar police station. Darade’s anticipatory bail plea was rejected by additional district sessions court on April 29. Education Commissioner Suraj Mandhre has submitted a detailed report on July 7, 2023 to the state government. He has mentioned in the report that Darade’s action raises serious questions about her functioning.

Taking note of the report, the Deputy Secretary of the state government, TV Karpate, issued orders of Darade’s suspension. Shailaja Darade will not be able to leave the head office without the state government’s permission and she cannot work for a private company or start a business.
