CM Eknath Shinde Collaborates with IIT Bombay to Mitigate Landslides on Mumbai-Pune Expressway

Lonavala, 31st July 2023: In an effort to tackle the issue of landslides on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has sought assistance from IIT Bombay. During his visit to the Adoshi Tunnel, which was blocked by a recent landslide, the Chief Minister inspected the ghat area and discussed potential solutions to prevent future incidents.

The 9 km stretch of the expressway, known for its vulnerability to landslides, has prompted Chief Minister Shinde to approach IIT Bombay for expert suggestions and recommendations. The renowned institute has already begun its work in analyzing the region and providing insights into effective preventive measures.

To address the landslide-prone region, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation has taken proactive steps by installing a protective net. Chief Minister Shinde also inquired about the actions taken to address a previous landslide incident near the Kamshet Tunnel.

In a proactive move to ensure public safety and the smooth functioning of the expressway, Chief Minister Shinde instructed the officials of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation to demolish the hazardous part of the mountain and implement further protective measures, including the installation of additional protective nets. This collaborative effort between the government and IIT Bombay aims to minimize the risks of landslides and create a safer travel environment for commuters on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
