Citizens Take a Stand: Shaving Heads and Fasting for Metro Eco Park in Ravet

In a striking demonstration of commitment to environmental preservation, citizens in Pune have embarked on a bold protest to safeguard the Metro Eco Park in Ravet. Shaving their heads and fasting, these individuals have gathered at the park to draw attention to the critical need for its immediate opening and sustained maintenance.

Vikas Badolia, a prominent member of the Metro Eco Park Bachao Samiti, underscored the urgency of promptly allowing public access to the park while emphasizing the imperative to maintain its status as a sanctuary for citizens.

Amidst fervent chants resonating through the park, such as “Jage vha, jage vha. Ravetkaranno, jage vha” (Wake up, Ravet people, wake up) and “Metro Eco Park vachlach pahije” (Metro Eco Park must be saved), the demonstrators passionately voiced their demands for the preservation of the park’s natural beauty and ecosystem. Their rallying cries also called for collective action in planting and protecting trees, symbolizing their commitment to environmental conservation.

This citizens’ activism reached a pivotal point with a meeting with the Pune District Collector on February 14th, 2024. Representatives from various groups, including the Metro Eco Park Bachao Samiti and Green Army, engaged in constructive dialogue to address the pressing concerns surrounding the park’s future.

In response to the citizens’ pleas, the District Collector issued immediate directives to ensure the proper maintenance of trees within the Metro Eco Park. This proactive response signifies a step forward in fulfilling the citizens’ aspirations for a thriving and accessible green space in Ravet.
