Pune, known for its moderate climate, is experiencing an unusual cold spell, with the district recording the lowest temperature in the state. On Friday, Shirur registered approximately 8 degrees, and the cold persists with Shirur at 9.3 degrees and the NDA area at 11.8 degrees. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of rain in Marathwada and Vidarbha on the 25th and 26th, attributing the phenomenon to the activation of a Western Cyclone over North India, causing heavy snowfall in Kashmir.
This dual influence is intensifying the cold wave in Maharashtra, with the weather department predicting continued hot weather during the day and cold temperatures in the morning and night until February 28. Shirur, in Pune district, recorded the lowest temperature on Friday at 9.3 degrees, while the NDA area experienced 11.8 degrees.

Anupam Kashyapi, Head of the Weather Forecasting Division at IMD Pune, highlighted, “Under the influence of a fresh WD seen as a trough, isolated light rain or snow is very likely over the western Himalayan region from 23-25 Feb. As a result, thunder, lightning, rain with gusty winds is very likely at isolated places over Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, Madhya Pradesh on 26-27.”
Minimum temperatures in Shivajinagar are predicted to be between 11 and 12°C, and in Lohegaon, they might range between 13 and 14°C until the end of the month, according to IMD predictions. Dry north/northeasterly winds, a result of the post-western disturbance (WD) effect, are contributing to clear skies and lower night temperatures in parts of Maharashtra.
