Chhatrapati Sambhaji Kings Secure Victorious Conclusion in Shriram Capital Maharashtra Premier League

Pune, June 23, 2003 – In a thrilling match at the MCA International Stadium in Gahunje, the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Kings emerged victorious, ending their campaign in the Shriram Capital Maharashtra Premier League (MPL) with a resounding win.

Led by skipper Murtaza Trunkwala, the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Kings secured their first victory in the league. Trunkwala sealed the game with a spectacular helicopter shot that landed in the stands, sealing the team’s triumph.

The result has significant implications for the playoffs. Regardless of the outcome of their match against Ratnagiri Jets, Puneri Bappa has already secured a spot in the playoffs. Joining them in the playoffs are the Ratnagiri Jets, Eagle Nashik Titans, and Kolhapur Tuskers. However, the final league game will determine the top four slots.

In the match against Solapur Royals, the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Kings displayed excellent performance. Restricting Solapur Royals to a total of 140 for 6 in their 20 overs, CSK chased down the target with 7 balls to spare. The highlight of the innings was an unbeaten 79-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Trunkwala, who scored 67 runs off 53 balls, and Om Bhosale, who contributed 34 runs off 25 balls.

Trunkwala’s innings was particularly commendable as he came to bat when CSK was struggling at 19 for 2. His experience and calculated approach ensured that the required run rate never became a cause for concern. With two sixes off Pranay Singh’s bowling in the 19th over, Trunkwala led his team to victory with a brilliant helicopter shot.

Vicky Ostwal, Solapur’s icon player, stood out as the best bowler with figures of 1 for 17 from his four overs.

Earlier in the match, CSK’s bowling unit proved their mettle by putting pressure on Solapur Royals. They had Solapur reeling at 15 for 3, with Avdhoot Dandekar (5), Yash Nahar (4), and Swapnil Fulpagar (3) losing their wickets early on. However, Rushabh Rathod’s resilient innings of 55 runs from 44 balls held the Solapur innings together, supported by skipper Vishant More (21), Atharva Kale (23), and Mehul Patel (22*).

Rajvardhan Hangargekar (1 for 23 in 4 overs) and Shamshuzama Kazi (1 for 23 in 4 overs) stood out as the top bowlers for CSK.

With a final score of 140 for 6 in 20 overs, Solapur Royals fell short of CSK’s target of 141 runs, which the Kings achieved with 7 wickets in hand and 7 balls remaining.

The Chhatrapati Sambhaji Kings’ victory concludes their journey in the Shriram Capital Maharashtra Premier League on a high note. Their remarkable performance in this match reflects their dedication and skill, showcasing their potential as a formidable team in the league.
