Checkmate at PDCC: 528 Enthusiastic Entries for District Chess Tournament

Pune, January 13, 2024: The chessboards are set, and excitement fills the air as Pune District Chess Circle (PDCC) prepares to host the PDCC District Under 7, 9, 11, 13, 17 Selection Chess Tournament. Scheduled to take place at Ashwamedh Hall and Shree Ganesh Sabhagruha on Karve Road from January 14th to 15th, 2024, the tournament has garnered an impressive 528 entries.

Mr. Prakash Kunte, Vice President of PDCC, announced that the event has secured sponsorship from Amanora and Truspace, with a total prize money pool of Rs.40,000/- up for grabs. The tournament will adhere to the Swiss league format, encompassing 7/8 rounds while applying the latest FIDE rules.

Among the notable participants are rated players Anushka Kutwal (1495), Viresh Sharnarthi (1812), Nihira Koul (1406), Aryan Karmalkar (1512), Aditya Joshi (1564), and Ira Bohora (1041).

The competition will unfold across five categories, featuring both boys and girls in the Under 7, 9, 11, 13, and 17 age groups. Renowned International Arbiter (IA) Vinita Shrotri will preside as the chief arbiter during the tournament.

The grand inauguration is set for January 14, 2024, at 9:15 AM, graced by Mr. Ashwin Trimal, Vice President of PDCC, and Major Dhyanchand Award Winner GM Abhijit Kunte.
