Brawl Erupts Between Residents and Guards in Charholi: Five Injured

A violent brawl between the residents of a housing complex and the guards of neighboring under-construction sites in Charholi resulted in five individuals sustaining injuries. The incident occurred around 1.15 am on Tuesday, leaving three residents and two security guards wounded. Two of the residents are in serious condition and are currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.

Following a complaint lodged by a resident, the Dighi police arrested ten guards and charged them with attempted murder and other offenses. In turn, one of the guards filed a cross-complaint of assault against three residents. The residents have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons and means).

Preliminary investigation findings reveal that the residents encountered a group of men near the security guard’s cabin of their society while returning home from a late-night party. The residents inquired about the gathering, leading to an exchange of words. According to the resident’s complaint, the guards behaved inappropriately and used abusive language. Video evidence supports the claim that the residents hurled abuses at the guards, while some others attempted to calm the situation.

Senior Inspector Machhindra Pandit of the Dighi police informed TOI that the situation escalated and turned into a brawl between the three residents and the guards by the time the police arrived at the society. The resident who filed the complaint mentioned that their society had recently experienced incidents of mobile phone snatching and robberies, which prompted them to question the men. The resident further alleged that the guards not only misbehaved but also brutally assaulted them. Two of their neighbors sustained severe injuries, including one with 11 stitches on the head and another with eight stitches. Additionally, one resident lost their gold chain during the attack, and the complainant themselves suffered a fractured left hand.

Inspector Pandit commented on the situation, stating that a guard had alerted the police, but the residents should have waited for their arrival instead of engaging in the altercation. In the cross-complaint, a security guard claimed that the residents attacked him when he tried to intervene. This guard, along with another, sustained leg injuries during the brawl.

The Dighi police are conducting further investigations into the incident to gather additional evidence and ascertain the sequence of events accurately.
