Bavdhan Citizens Forum Takes Bold Step: Erects No Parking Signs to Reclaim Footpaths

In a proactive move to reclaim footpaths for pedestrians, the Bavdhan Citizens Forum (BCF) has initiated a community-driven campaign by installing No Parking signs along the NDA-Pashan main road between Lane no 8 and Lane no 10. The move comes in response to growing concerns about indiscriminate parking, particularly near popular establishments in the area.

Kedar Bapat, a resident and BCF member, identified issues arising from the haphazard parking of vehicles near a sweets shop in Lane no 8. The initiative seeks to address such challenges and raise awareness about the appropriate use of footpaths. No Parking signs have been strategically placed, with a focus on areas prone to unauthorized parking, notably near a pan shop adjacent to a hotel.

Ekta Mehta, another BCF member, highlighted the significance of keeping footpaths clear for pedestrians. Despite designated parking spaces being available, instances of parking on footpaths persist, causing inconvenience to the public. No Parking signs, applied using stencils and yellow paint, serve as a visual deterrent and encourage compliance with designated parking areas.

Dushyant Bhatia emphasized that footpaths are designed for pedestrians, not as parking spaces for two-wheelers. Previous awareness campaigns yielded limited results, leading to the decision to physically mark footpaths with No Parking signs to convey a stronger message.

Deepa Prabhu, the founder of BCF, noted that while No Parking boards are typically installed on main roads, they often face damage or removal to accommodate parking. The BCF intends to expand the initiative across the entire Bavdhan area, involving approximately 15 to 20 BCF volunteers in the recent activity.

This community-led effort by the BCF reflects a commitment to practical solutions and active community engagement. The installation of No Parking signs not only aims to regulate parking but also endeavors to create a safer and more organized urban environment for the benefit of the entire community.
