Alandi Municipal Council Cracks Down on Tax Defaulters: Property Tax and Water Tax Collection Campaign Intensifies

Alandi Municipal Council Implements Stringent Measures to Ensure Timely Tax Payments from Residents

Pune: As the financial year approaches its conclusion, the Alandi Municipal Council has intensified its efforts in the property tax and water tax collection campaign. Over the past four months, the council has been diligently pursuing tax defaulters, with a notable escalation in enforcement measures over the last ten days. Chief Officer of the Alandi Municipal Council, Kailas Kendre, disclosed that during this period, 14 properties have been sealed, and 48 tap connections have been severed as part of enforcement actions.

Significant progress has been achieved in tax collection for the fiscal year 2023-24, with 70% of property tax amounting to 7.50 crores and 30% of water tax totaling 50 lakhs successfully collected. However, efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining arrears through proactive measures undertaken by the Alandi Municipal Council. This enforcement drive will continue into April, with all council officers and employees fully committed to the initiative. Defaulters who persistently neglect tax payments despite repeated home visits and reminders will face consequences.

Funds allocated by the government to civic local bodies are primarily intended for new projects, leaving maintenance and repairs dependent on internally generated revenue, primarily sourced from citizens’ taxes. Therefore, prompt payment of property tax and water tax by residents is crucial to enhancing the quality of civic amenities and services.

Kailas Kendra, Chief Officer of the Alandi Municipal Corporation, emphasized, “The tax collection campaign will extend beyond March, with sustained action against defaulters. The drive will continue into the upcoming financial year, starting April 1, 2024. I urge citizens to pay taxes promptly to avoid penalties and ensure the uninterrupted provision of essential services.”
