A Unique Opportunity: Indian MBBS Doctors Participate in Start-up Immersion Programme in Singapore

Bengaluru/ Singapore, 10th July 2023: A group of doctors enrolled in the Management Programme for Medical Professionals – ClinicianX (MPM-Cx), an exclusive management program for doctors offered by IIM-Ahmedabad, had the opportunity to participate in a Global Start-up Immersion program held in Singapore. The three-day program, hosted by the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), included workshops on healthcare design thinking, product development, start-up challenges, and interactions with industry experts, among other activities.

The MPM-ClinicianX program is a unique course specifically designed for MBBS doctors in collaboration with IIM-Ahmedabad and DailyRounds (Neuroglia Health Pvt Limited), a healthcare startup based in Bengaluru. The start-up immersion program in Singapore was a significant component of this course.

One of the highlights of the program was a healthcare design thinking workshop conducted by the expert team from NTU. The workshop aimed to train doctors in approaching healthcare problems from a design thinking perspective, encouraging them to think innovatively and creatively to find solutions. Additionally, a start-up challenge was held, chaired by Dr. Deepu Sebin (Physician and Founder of DailyRounds) and Dr. Mayank Gulkarni (Physician and Associate Director at the National University of Singapore).

The program also featured sessions by Mr. Senu Sam (Founder and CEO of MyKare Health) and Mr. Tanay Talal (Founder and CEO of Moonfrog Labs), who shared their insights and experiences in the start-up industry. Eminent speakers in the field conducted workshops on product development, marketing, and product design. The participants also had the opportunity to hear from venture capitalists (VCs) and investors, gaining valuable knowledge about the business side of healthcare entrepreneurship.

Around 40 MBBS and specialist doctors from across the country took part in the program, representing a diverse range of candidates including fresh MBBS graduates, senior specialist clinicians, and practitioners. Throughout the program, the doctors engaged in various creative projects, such as developing a primary school healthcare program, designing a glucose-monitoring app, reimagining the children’s OPD, and exploring electronic medical records.

As the trend of MBBS graduates and medical doctors pursuing management careers and entrepreneurship continues to grow, specialized programs like the MPM-ClinicianX are becoming increasingly important. These programs aim to bridge the gap between medical professionals and management experts, creating a new generation of healthcare managerial professionals capable of driving much-needed changes in the healthcare industry and public health.

The start-up immersion program in Singapore provided the participating doctors with valuable insights, networking opportunities, and practical skills necessary to navigate the intersection of medicine and entrepreneurship. It served as a stepping stone for their future endeavors in healthcare innovation and management, empowering them to make a meaningful impact in the industry.
