A Dialogue for Change: Poona College’s Event Highlights Student-Police Collaboration

In an effort to foster stronger ties between law enforcement and students, the Poona College of Arts, Science & Commerce organized a transformative Police-Students Interaction event on October 20, 2023. The event, held at the college’s Conference Hall, proved to be a remarkable success, with active participation from students in the BBA-CA and BSc (Computer Science) programs.

The Police-Students Interaction program at Poona College achieved its goals by raising awareness among students about critical societal issues, fostering a more empathetic understanding of the police force, and ultimately strengthening the bond between law enforcement and the student community. Through this program, students gained knowledge, a fresh perspective, and a sense of empowerment, with the potential to inspire active civic engagement and cooperation with the police in creating a safer and more harmonious society.

Under the esteemed leadership of Principal Dr. Aftab Anwar Shaikh, Vice Principals Dr. Iqbal Shaikh and Prof. Mohinuddin Khan, and Head Dr. Shabana Shaikh, the event welcomed distinguished guests. Narayan Shirgaonkar, the Assistant Commissioner of Police from Pune City, and Bhagyeshri Salunke, Secretary of R K Bahuddeshiya Sanstha, served as guest speakers for this enlightening session.

The event commenced with a warm welcome speech by Dr. Shabana Shaikh, Head of the Computer Science and BBA (CA) department, setting the stage for the interaction and extending a heartfelt welcome to the guest speakers and students.

Principal Dr. Aftab Anwar Shaikh highlighted the vital role of the police in maintaining law and order in society. He emphasized how students could actively contribute to the community and support the police force in their mission.

During his address, ACP Narayan Shirgaonkar took the opportunity to enlighten and empower the students on pressing issues that demand their attention. He discussed topics such as Social Media Misuse, Drug Addiction, Student Dropout Rates, and Domestic Violence, aiming to bridge the gap between students and the police, often perceived as distant and insensitive.
