● More than 12,000 athletes across 600 schools gear up to participate and compete
Pune, November 20th, 2023: The 2nd edition of the SFA Championships Pune, is set to take place in from 21st November with a stellar registration of over 12,000 athletes from more than 600 schools, competing in sports like Football, Basketball, Skating, Archery, Badminton, Kabaddi, Throwball, Speedcubing and lots more. The SFA Championships will showcase the untapped sporting talent from schools, competing in more than 30 sporting categories to pick the prestigious title of ‘number one school in sports’ in Pune.
Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex (Balewadi), Viman Nagar Skating Ring and Ganga Legends Sports Complex equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, will see school athletes from 3-18years of age, showcasing their sporting talent at the SFA Championships. With 66% participation coming from male athletes and 34% female athletes, the preferred sports registered for are football, athletics, skating, swimming and basketball.
This year, Gymnastics is being introduced for the first time at the Pune edition of the SFA Championships, with a commendable surge in participation by girls, emphasising the growing interest and prowess in gymnastics among the female athletes. On the other hand, skating has close to 800 participants competing this year, which is a great beginning for any sporting category. The 2023-2024 Pune edition of SFA Championships has Football, Athletics, Skating, Basketball, Chess as top sports in male participation, whereas female athletes have picked their preferred sports as Athletics, Swimming, Basketball, Skating, and Football.
To provide an unparalleled sporting experience to the athletes, the SFA Championships offer professional infrastructure and equipment, certified match officials and referees through Sports Associations, comprehensive medical stations, including on-site physiotherapists, clinics, and workshops. The digitally integrated system will equip athletes with detailed statistics, performance analysis and match videography. Visualise this multi-sport platform like the Olympics, where every school can send their athlete contingent to compete in sports.
SFA has committed to encourage 2 lakh athletes to compete in 10 SFA Championships over the course of four months in 2023-2024. This marks a significant step towards establishing a sports-tech platform that brings school sports to the centre stage, placing athletes at the forefront and paving the way for their journey to becoming future champions.
