In a move aimed at easing the financial burden on property owners in Pimpri-Chinchwad, the Maharashtra State Government has temporarily suspended the collection of user fees, prompting swift adjustments in the tax collection system of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). As a result, property owners can now pay their basic property taxes without the additional user fee.
The decision from the Urban Development Department of the Maharashtra State Government led to a directive to the PCMC on the 20th of the month, instructing them to halt the collection of user charges until a meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is convened to discuss the matter. Yashwant Dange, Assistant Commissioner of the Health Department, then directed the Taxation and Tax Collection Department to implement the Maharashtra Government order.
Subsequently, the Taxation and Tax Collection Department swiftly adjusted the computer system to align with the Maharashtra Government’s decision. The implementation of the user fee suspension order commenced in the online billing system for citizens on December 26. Assistant Commissioner Nilesh Deshmukh has appealed to property owners to cooperate with the PCMC by settling their arrears and current taxes.
PCMC Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh said, “By the directive issued by the Urban Development Department of the Maharashtra State Government, the collection of user fees has been temporarily suspended. Consequently, the computer system of the Taxation and Tax Collection Department has undergone modifications.”
