Revolutionizing Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad: PMRDA’s Ring Road Project Unveiled

PMRDA

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has set the wheels in motion for a game-changing development in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad as it announces a crucial notification regarding the ambitious Ring Road project. This extensive project will have a profound impact on the landscape and infrastructure of the region, with a plan to connect 44 villages across four taluks: Khed, Haveli, Mulshi, and Maval. The Ring Road project involves the construction of 15 flyovers, two railway flyovers, and five tunnels, making it a significant transformation project for the area.

The importance of the Ring Road project was highlighted in PMRDA’s Regional Development Plan, reflecting its strategic role in the region’s growth. Initially, the plan outlined a road length of 128 kilometers with a width of 90 meters for the first phase. However, subsequent deliberations led to an expansion of the road’s width to 110 meters, aligning it with the MSRDC Ring Road. The concept of the Ring Road was originally embedded in the regional plan of 1987, underscoring its long-term significance for the area.

As time passed, several construction projects were sanctioned along different sections of this road, potentially making land acquisition a complex and expensive endeavor. Moreover, the proposed Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Ring Road, also 110 meters wide, is located just 15 kilometers from this project. To avoid redundancy and ensure optimal utilization of space, a decision was made to reduce the width of the Ring Road to 65 meters, a move that has received approval from the state government.

In light of these developments, PMRDA has taken the crucial step of appointing a consulting company to prepare a comprehensive project report for the revised Ring Road. The consulting company has already completed the necessary surveys, incurring an expenditure of approximately 5 thousand 800 crore rupees for land acquisition. The overall budget for the Ring Road project stands at around 17 thousand 412 crore rupees, underlining the scale and significance of this transformative endeavor.
