Flat Owners Demand Immediate Action to Address Basic Amenities Issues
Residents of a housing project under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Indrayani Nagar sector 12, Bhosari, voiced their grievances as they stormed the Pune Metropolitan Development Authority (PMRDA) office, seeking resolution to persistent issues, notably the ongoing water crisis.
Frustrated by the prolonged neglect of their concerns, residents took a day off from work to spend several hours at the PMRDA office, demanding action from officials. Despite assurances from authorities, the grievances remain unaddressed, prompting residents to escalate their protest.
The housing project, spanning 52 hectares and consisting of 45 buildings with 11 floors each, was envisioned to provide affordable housing for economically weaker sections and low-income group citizens under the PMAY initiative. However, despite residing in their flats for nearly a year, residents continue to grapple with fundamental issues such as shoddy construction, leaky roofs, and most urgently, a severe shortage of water supply.
For the past four months, residents of buildings A1, A2, and A3 have been enduring acute water scarcity, exacerbating their living conditions. Despite repeated complaints and follow-ups, the authorities have failed to provide a sustainable solution to the crisis, prompting residents to take matters into their own hands by staging a protest at the PMRDA office.
The situation has become dire, with residents resorting to purchasing water from tankers at exorbitant costs, amounting to approximately Rs 1.5 lakh per month collectively. This financial burden, coupled with the depletion of society funds, has rendered the living conditions unsustainable for many residents, forcing them to contemplate relocating elsewhere.
Despite assurances from PMRDA Commissioner Rahul Mahiwal during a previous inspection, the issue remains unresolved, exacerbated by the absence of key officials due to election duties. With no immediate recourse available, residents are left disillusioned and uncertain about their future in the housing project.
