Reclaiming Urban Spaces: PCMC’s Successful Drive Against Illegal Constructions in B, D, and E Zones

Pimpri: In a significant move to reclaim public spaces and uphold planned urban development, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) executed a robust anti-encroachment operation in the B, D, and E zones. Spanning from Wakad to Pimple Nilakh and extending from Jagtap Dairy Chowk to Bhujbal Chowk in the D zone, alongside Ravet BRTS Road in the B zone, and from Jai Ganesh Samrajya Chowk to Alankapuram Chowk in Moshi, the initiative marks a crucial step toward maintaining the city’s structural integrity and removing encroachments from public spaces.

Over the course of a week, more than 4 lakh square feet of encroached land was identified, demolished, and successfully reclaimed. The operation not only aims to free up vital areas for community use but also serves as a deterrent against unauthorized occupation of public spaces.

PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh, highlighting the importance of the drive, stated, “The anti-encroachment initiative is pivotal for maintaining the planned development of our city. In the public interest of the growing population of the city, it is necessary that all major roads in the city are free of obstructions.”

Additional Commissioner Pradip Jambhale-Patil emphasized, “This aggressive drive is proof of our commitment to creating a city that thrives on organized and sustainable growth. Encroached spaces obstruct the road and could lead to accidents. It is essential to tackle encroachment issues promptly to safeguard the interests of our citizens and uphold the city’s aesthetic and functional appeal.”

Jambhale-Patil also mentioned that similar aggressive anti-encroachment drives will be conducted across the rest of the zonal offices in the coming months. This comprehensive approach reflects the municipality’s dedication to maintaining a clean and organized urban landscape for the benefit of its residents.
