Pune’s PCMC Unveils Comprehensive Plan for Eco-Friendly Ganesh Visarjan

As the Ganesh Chaturthi festival reaches its grand culmination, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in Pune is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring a smooth and eco-friendly Ganesh Visarjan (immersion) process. In a series of thoughtful initiatives, the PCMC has rolled out comprehensive arrangements for the visarjan, catering to the convenience and safety of devotees.

One of the notable initiatives is the introduction of chariots adorned with vibrant flowers, which will be stationed at each zonal office of the PCMC. These chariots will facilitate the collection of idols and Nirmalya (ritual offerings) after the Ganesh Visarjan process.

Additionally, the PCMC has established idol collection centers across all wards, extending a warm invitation to citizens and mandals to donate their Ganesh idols. In a bid to promote eco-friendly practices, the PCMC encourages citizens to opt for the immersion of Ganesh idols in artificial tanks at home. For Ganesh mandals, a similar approach is advised, emphasizing the importance of responsible immersion.

The Municipal Corporation assures that all Ganesh idols collected during this process will undergo proper immersion, adhering to sacred rituals.

Furthermore, the PCMC has set up well-equipped facilities for devotees at various immersion ghats throughout the city. These immersion ghats include the Indrayani River Immersion Ghat at Moshi, Jadhav Immersion Ghat at Ravet, Thergaon Chinchwad Bridge Immersion Ghat, Subhash Ghat at Chinchwad, Punyashlok Ahlyadevi Ghat at Pimple Gurav, Vetal Maharaj Ghat at Sangvi, Immersion Ghat at Wakad Village, Vaibhavnagar, and Artificial Immersion Ghats at Pimpri.

To enhance safety and convenience, directional boards, Nirmalyakunds (collection points for ritual offerings), lifeguards, fire extinguishing systems, and disaster management arrangements will be in place at these ghats. Additionally, provisions for drinking water will be accessible to citizens visiting these locations.

PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh has directed zonal officers and staff to embellish the immersion ghats, creating a visually appealing and spiritually uplifting atmosphere.

In the interest of public health and well-being, the PCMC will deploy ambulances staffed with medical teams at major Ganesh Visarjan Ghats across the city. These teams will comprise medical officers, nurses, and sweepers, ensuring that all necessary medical support is readily available.

The PCMC’s meticulous preparations underscore its commitment to facilitating a seamless and eco-conscious Ganesh Visarjan for all residents and devotees.
