Pune’s Pawana Dam Reaches 92% Capacity; Water Discharge to Commence Today

Pune, August 3rd, 2023: The water level at Pawana Dam has seen a significant rise in recent days due to good rainfall in the catchment areas. As of Thursday, the dam has been filled up to 92.27% of its capacity, prompting the authorities to begin discharging water into the Pawana river from today.

Dam officials have informed that the water discharge into the Pawana river will commence at 11 am on Thursday, with an initial release of 1,400 cusecs. They also stated that there might be a further increase in the water discharge in the next 24 to 48 hours if the catchment areas continue to receive substantial rainfall.

In light of the rising water levels, officials have issued an appeal to citizens living around the river to take necessary precautions. They are urged to remove their animals and belongings from the river basin and refrain from entering the river area during the water discharge. The administration has also advised residents in low-lying areas to remain vigilant and stay alert.

The increase in water levels at Pawana Dam brings relief to the region, which has been facing water scarcity in recent times. Proper management and controlled water release will help in mitigating the risk of flooding and ensure the safety of nearby communities.
