Pune’s citizens have every reason to celebrate as their persistent demand for the extension of the metro network from Phugewadi to Nigdi, rather than Pimpri, was finally met. A jubilant gathering took place at Morwadi Chowk on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m., where various social organizations and citizens came together to mark this significant milestone. The event saw the participation of a multitude of representatives and individuals from different social organizations.
The journey to extend the metro network to Nigdi began six years ago when the collective voice of social organizations and Pune’s residents called for this extension. Their demand has been resolute and unwavering. Through human chains, hunger strikes, and advocacy at various levels, the people of Pune pushed for this extension. The movement garnered support from numerous political parties and public representatives in the city. On Monday, their persistence bore fruit as the central government granted approval for the Nigdi Metro extension. It was an occasion for unity, celebration, and a sense of achievement for the city’s residents and social organizations.
