Pune Witnesses Surge in PMPML Pass Holders: Over 49K Avail Facility in July

Pune, August 8th, 2023: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has been actively promoting the usage of public transport through various pass schemes, offering citizens concessions and incentives. Recent official data reveals a substantial increase in the number of pass holders for PMPML transportation, contributing to an upswing in revenue generated from pass sales.

In the month of July this year, a remarkable 49,308 passes were sold under diverse categories, marking a significant increase from the 39,892 passes sold during the same period last year. This boost in pass utilization has translated into a considerable rise in revenue for PMPML, with a revenue of Rs 4.8 Crore recorded for July, in contrast to the Rs 2.75 Crore registered in July of the preceding year.

The upward trend is particularly pronounced in the domain of student passes, with a notable surge in sales. A total of 1.75 lakh student passes were sold in July 2023, reflecting a substantial rise from the 1.33 lakh sold during the corresponding month in the previous year. Similarly, the volume of passes purchased by general commuters has also witnessed an increase, rising from 19,950 to 23,430.

The PMPML pass scheme encompasses a variety of categories, catering to diverse segments of commuters. This encompasses student passes, passes for senior citizens, general commuters, as well as passes for employees of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). With 57 pass centers, PMPML issues passes across 10 different categories.

For students, the pass options are diverse, encompassing five different types, while general commuters have access to four different types of passes tailored to their needs. The range of options aims to cater to various segments of society, encouraging a larger portion of the population to opt for public transport, thereby contributing to the reduction of traffic congestion and promoting a more sustainable mode of commuting.

The surge in pass holders is a promising sign of the effectiveness of the PMPML pass scheme, not only in increasing public transport utilization but also in boosting revenue for the transportation authority. This trend underscores the importance of offering incentives and concessions to commuters, fostering a positive shift towards sustainable and eco-friendly modes of transportation within the city.
