Pune: Mundhwa flyover work to be completed by December end; joint review meeting of PMC-Railways held

Mundhwa flyover

Pune: The flyover work over the Pune-Solapur railway route at Mundhwa is 80 percent complete. A joint review meeting of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Railway administration decided to complete the work by December end.

The flyover will end the woes of commuters from Mundhwa, Ghorpadi and Kalyani Nagar. The work started three years ago. It slowed down during the pandemic. MLA Sunil Kamble called the joint meeting of officials from both sides. The officials inspected the construction site.

Kamble said, “Residents of Camp have to cross the railway gate to go to Mundhwa, Keshav Nagar and Kharadi. Similarly, residents from these areas have to do the same thing to reach Camp. They waste a lot of time due to traffic congestion. Around 104 trains use this railway track daily. The gate has to be closed for those many times. Hence, the PMC decided to build the flyover.”

The tender work for the proposed flyover on the Pune-Miraj railway route is in the final stage. Bids will be invited by Diwali, i.e. November second week. It will be completed in two years. After completion of these two flyovers, time taken for travel from the eastern areas such as Mundhwa, Ghorpadi and Kharadi to Camp and vice versa will be reduced. Moreover, traffic congestion will also end, said Kamble.
