Pune: Moshi Demands Daily Water Supply, Not Cricket Stadium: MNS Protestors’ Outcry

Moshi Cricket Stadium

Pimpri Chinchwad: The citizens of Moshi have voiced their opposition to the proposed construction of a cricket stadium and a new municipal administrative building in the area. Instead, they are demanding that the municipal administration address their pressing need for daily water supply. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) led a protest in front of the municipality, with prominent leaders like City President Sachin Chikhale, Ashwini Bangar, Anita Panchal, Bala Danwale, Raju Sawale, Datta Devatarase, Rupesh Patekar, Vishal Mankari, among others, joining the demonstration.

The protest comes as a response to the lack of attention towards basic amenities like water supply and the deteriorating condition of essential infrastructure in Moshi. The Annasaheb Magar Stadium, once a symbol of pride for sports enthusiasts, now lies abandoned and in poor condition, with work at a complete standstill. The playgrounds too have been neglected, raising concerns among sports enthusiasts in the area.

Many residents are questioning the priorities of the municipal corporation, especially considering the dire water situation in the region. Over the past three years, the administration has provided water to citizens only for one day, leaving many to suffer the consequences. In some areas, water is supplied with high pressure, while others receive it with low pressure, leading to unequal distribution and hardships for the people.

City President Sachin Chikhale led a delegation that met with Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale to express their concerns and demands for daily water supply. Chikhale stressed that the water crisis needs immediate attention and resolution, putting citizens’ needs before any extravagant development projects.

Moreover, citizens have raised questions about the need to construct a new municipal administrative building when essential services like water supply remain unaddressed. The funds allocated for such projects could be better utilized to repair and upgrade existing infrastructure, like the Annasaheb Magar Stadium, to benefit all sports enthusiasts in the city.

The protesters also highlighted the importance of prioritizing the repair and maintenance of all sports grounds, ensuring they are of good quality and usable for all sportsmen in the city. They called for an equitable distribution of resources to enhance sports facilities for the community.
