Pune: Maha Metro Witnesses Over 12,000 Commuters on Inauguration Day after PM Narendra Modi Flags Off Metro Trains

Pune, [Date]: The inauguration of the Pune metro passenger services on routes from Phugewadi to Civil Court and Ruby Hall to Garware College by Prime Minister Narendra Modi saw an overwhelming response, with over 12,000 commuters using the metro between 5 pm and 10 pm on Tuesday, as reported by Hemant Sonawane, the Public Relations Officer of Pune Metro. The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) is anticipating a daily ridership of more than 1 lakh commuters on these newly launched routes.

Sonawane stated, “The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) observed a ridership of 12,000 commuters between 5 pm and 10 pm after the inauguration of the two new Pune Metro lines: Phugewadi to Civil Court and Ruby Hall to Garware College. On Wednesday, approximately 9,900 commuters traveled by metro on these lines up until 2 pm.”

The newly launched routes offer an interchange facility that allows passengers to switch between Civil Court Metro Station, making it convenient to travel from PCMC to Vanaz or PCMC to Ruby Hall. The extended routes connect crucial parts of the city, including the PMC office, Pune RTO, Shivajinagar, Civil Court, and Pune Railway Station. Among the 11 total stations on these routes, Shivaji Nagar Metro Station and Civil Court Metro Station are underground.

These new metro lines cater to various daily commuters, such as students heading to Wadia College, individuals traveling to Pune Railway Station, and locals going to the Pune RTO, District Court, and PMC office, offering them improved connectivity and convenience.

To further encourage ridership, Maha-Metro has introduced a 30% fare discount for students and weekend commuters, along with a 10% fare discount for metro card members. With fares ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 35, travelers can conveniently access the PCMC to Civil Court and Vanaz to Ruby Hall routes. The journey from PCMC to Vanaz is estimated to take 40 minutes, with a fare of Rs 35, while the fare from PCMC to Ruby Hall is Rs 30.
