In a momentous achievement, the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India, has conferred the highest honor upon the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation during the Urban Mobility India Conference 2023.
The distinguished award acknowledges the city’s groundbreaking approach to urban transport, which encompasses the introduction of supplementary amenities such as bicycle lanes and pedestrian pathways on vital roadways. This progressive approach also incorporates the No Vehicle Use (NMT) policy within the jurisdiction of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.
The city’s submission, highlighting its pioneering urban transport initiatives, was formally presented to the Ministry of Urban Development on August 25, 2023. Following a rigorous evaluation process, Pimpri Chinchwad stood out among numerous contenders from across India.
The coveted award was officially presented to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation on October 29, 2023, at the 16th Urban Transport Development Conference hosted at the Manik Shaw Centre in Delhi. Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh accepted the award from Manoj Joshi, Secretary of the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India, in the presence of esteemed officials and dignitaries during the prestigious prize distribution ceremony.
