Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Set to Revive Long-Pending Pavana Pipeline Project

After a prolonged delay of 12 years, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is gearing up to potentially restart the long-stalled Pavana Pipeline Project. The initiative, which had encountered setbacks over the years, is now showing signs of revival.

Shrikant Savne, Joint City Engineer (Civil) of the PCMC Water Supply Department, shared insights into the corporation’s determination to recommence the Pavana Pipeline Project. Savne stated, “PCMC has been actively engaging with the state government regarding this matter. We are keen on devising a plan to kickstart the Pavana Pipeline Project.”

The project’s history dates back to August 9, 2011, when a tragic incident occurred. During a protest against the Pavana pipeline project dam, three farmers lost their lives due to a police shooting. This unfortunate event led to the project’s suspension.

The PCMC’s initial objective was to establish a pipeline originating from the Pavana Dam, situated approximately 50 km away from the Pimpri-Chinchwad region. However, the unfortunate incident resulted in the project’s suspension, with subsequent governments grappling to find a resolution.

Over the years, the Pavana Pipeline Project has remained in limbo, caught in a web of bureaucratic complexities and political challenges. The initiative’s restart would not only address water supply concerns but also signify a step towards fulfilling the region’s infrastructural needs.

The PCMC’s determination to revive the Pavana Pipeline Project demonstrates its commitment to the betterment of local infrastructure and public welfare. As discussions and negotiations with relevant stakeholders progress, the potential revival of this project holds the promise of improved water supply and enhanced regional development.
