Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Greenlights 200 MLD Water Treatment Plant Project

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has given the nod to a significant project aimed at meeting the burgeoning water demand anticipated over the next four decades. With the approval from Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh, the proposed 200 Million Liters per Day (MLD) water treatment plant project is set to commence, paving the way for essential infrastructure development.

The project, necessitated by population growth projections and escalating water requirements, is a proactive measure to ensure sustainable water supply for Pimpri-Chinchwad city. It builds upon the existing Andra and Bhama Askhed water projects, which currently provide 267 MLD of water. Notably, a 100 MLD water purification initiative at Chikhali has already been executed, facilitating water supply to Pimpri-Chinchwad and its surrounding villages.

Now, with the green signal from the municipal administration, preparations are underway to kickstart the implementation of the proposed 200 MLD Water Purification Project at Chikhali. BJP MLA Mahesh Landge, a vocal advocate for swift action on this front, has been instrumental in steering discussions towards prompt execution. Emphasizing the urgency posed by population growth and escalating water demand, Landge’s advocacy has catalyzed administrative action, culminating in the recent approval by Commissioner Shekhar Singh.

Explaining the significance of the project, MLA Landge highlighted its potential to mitigate water scarcity concerns in several villages encompassed by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. These include Chikhali, Talawade, Moshi, Charholi, Dighi, Dudulgaon, and Jadhavwadi, collectively home to a substantial population.

Speaking optimistically about the timeline for project implementation, MLA Mahesh Landge outlined plans for expedited progress. He affirmed that by December 2025, residents of Talawade, Chikhali, Moshi, Charholi, and Dighi can expect to benefit from enhanced water supply. He also underscored the commitment of the Mahayuti government, under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, towards resolving the water crisis through decisive actions.
